Matt James has been known for his extraordinary talent as a didgeridoo player. He can turn the drone of the didgeridoo into a beautiful musical symphony of sounds that can soothe and warm the heart. His sounds will thrill and excite the senses - hearing is believing.
When Matt was 18 years old he began his journey into becoming a multi-instrumental musician. He purchased a broken guitar from a mate of his for only $20, and repaired it. He then began to teach himself to play. Hiding in him all along, was his natural talent for music, just waiting to be discovered and shared with the world.
On Matt’s 21st Birthday he received a didgeridoo as a gift. He began to practice and master the ever so difficult circular breathing, which is required to play the didgeridoo, creating his own unique sound and style of playing. He soon began to add more layers of instruments to his performance, creating a rich tribal sound. With these unique sounds he set off to perform at the Eumundi Markets on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, where he was one of the first musicians to entertain the crowds that flock there. His music would leave his listeners mesmerized and wanting more.
Matt’s diversity and talent continued to prove itself when both bands he played in, in his earlier career produced award winning albums. The first Soul Prism in 1995 and the second, Tribal Trance in 1999. He then went on to perform as a solo artist, once again producing an award winning album, Evolution in 2000.
In 2002 Matt’s performance at The Australia Zoo for the Australia Day celebration captured and impressed Steve Irwin’s attention, gaining residency at the zoo for the past five years.
